CORONADO, Calif. -- Friends of a woman who died in a car crash that also killed a passenger during a police pursuit denied that the woman driving was a carjacker, it was reported Saturday.

Jamie Summer Guillen and passenger Roosevelt Lewis died in Thursday's roughly 7:50 a.m. crash in Coronado as she tried to elude police, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Guillen of Imperial Beach lost control of the stolen Ford F-150 as she sped north on Silver Strand Boulevard. The pickup overturned and caught fire near Glorietta Bay Park, killing Guillen, 24, at the scene, Lt. Dennis Brugos said.

Police withheld the passenger's name, but friends of Guillen identified him to the Union-Tribune.

According to police, the chase started about five minutes earlier, based on a report of a carjacking in the 1200 block of Georgia Street.

A caller told sheriff's personnel a woman with a pit bull confronted a couple as they were detailing the truck, threatened them with a knife and stole the vehicle with one of the victims still inside it, police said.

Later Thursday, Brugos said it was unclear if what happened constituted a carjacking.

"At this point in the investigation, it has not been established whether an actual carjacking did, in fact, occur," he said.
