SAN DIEGO -- Six fire victims are being remembered in funeral services Friday.
Friends and family gathered at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery Friday morning to pay tribute to the Shohara family.
James and Solange Shohara and their son, Randy, all died trying to escape from the Cedar Fire on Oct. 26.Flames ripped through their Lakeside dream homeThe Shoharas met in France 40 years ago, where Solange was born and James began his Air Force career. Despite not knowing each other's language, family members say they instantly fell in love."The best way to describe it is that everyone knew that they were in love. A lot of us were probably envious of their relationship because they were always together," friend Robert Hernandez said. The Shoharas are survived by two children and two grandchildren."My dad was a bit of a slow talker, it took him a while to get a sentence out and so with that he taught us patience. My mom was tough. She took crap from no one. She also taught us ... compassion," son Andy Shohara said."We are actually the luckiest people, Andy and I, because we were given the opportunity to be born to my parents," daughter Kathy Petersen said.
The family will also hold a "celebration of life" ceremony Saturday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. at the Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church in Ramona. Also remembered Friday were three Lakeside family members who died in the Cedar Fire.Memorial services were held for 44-year-old Robin Sloan, her 17-year-old daughter, Jennifer, and her 54-year-old sister-in-law, Mary Lynne Peace. The three were found dead on their mountaintop property near the Barona Indian Reservation. All three were remembered by family and friends at the El Cajon mortuary.
