Firefighters continue to surround the 56,700 Paradise Fire in and around Valley Center. As of Wednesday, it was 85 percent contained.

The blaze, which started shortly after midnight Oct. 26, destroyed 176 residences and killed two people.

The cost to fight the fire to date was $9 million.

The Paradise Fire should be fully contained by 6 p.m. Saturday, with full control expected by Nov. 15, the California Department of Forestry said.

The largest of San Diego County's deadly wildfires was fully surrounded Tuesday, CDF officials said.

Full containment of the Cedar Fire -- which killed at least 14 people and scorched more than 280,000 acres -- came on the day that President George W. Bush toured fire-ravaged county areas.

The target date for full control of the blaze is Nov. 16.

The firestorm broke out near Ramona the evening of Oct. 25, probably sparked by a lost hunter's signal fire. The fire destroyed 2,820 buildings -- 2,232 of them homes. Among the fatal victims was a Novato, Calif., firefighter.

To date, the Cedar Fire has cost $19 million to battle, and by the time the fire is extinguished the cost to fight it was expected to be an estimated $30 million, according to the CDF.

About 1,378 firefighters were working to ensure the fire does not rekindle by checking hotspots.
