A a 9-year-old boy and a 42-year-old man are in the hospital Saturday with burns they received while attempting to build a camp stove in their backyard in Ramona, authorities said.

The accident, reported just before 9:30 p.m. Friday, happened when the pair built a "homemade mini camp stove" that exploded in the backyard of a home in the 3200 block of Dye Road, said San Diego Sheriff's Lt. Jim Duffy.

Both the man and boy suffered serious burns from the explosion, and were transported to a hospital, Duffy said.

Duffy said he did not know if the two victims were related, what the stove was made from, or how it exploded.
