Controlled Burn On Camp Pendleton Today

Routine Controlled Burn Scheduled

POSTED: 8:49 am PDT September 9, 2010

North County residents may see plumes of smoke rising from the direction of Camp Pendleton Thursday as military crews conduct a routine controlled burn on the Marine Corps base near Oceanside.

The training and brush-clearing operation is scheduled to begin about 10 a.m., according to the USMC station's public affairs office.

Firefighters plan to contain the blaze to roughly 30 acres in an open area covered by heavy, dry vegetation, base officials said.
