SAN DIEGO -- Authorities are looking into a possible connection between a man accused of robbing a Poway bank and the so-called "Skateboard Bandit" robberies. On Tuesday, Colter Johnson was charged with robbing one bank, but that could change as authorities continue to investigate whether he could be the "Skateboard Bandit," who was responsible for two bank robberies in July.Johnson was arrested in Ocean Beach last Thursday and has now been charged in federal court with robbing the Chase Bank in Poway earlier that day.Johnson's attorney said the government has indicated there may be more charges coming."There's a couple of other bank robberies specifically that they intend to add or supplement to the single charge that's filed now," said Jim Pokorny, Johnson's attorney. The FBI is looking into the possibility that Johnson could be the "Skateboard Bandit." Surveillance video of a Comerica Bank holdup in July showed the robber with a skateboard, which the Poway robber also had."I've read the media too, that there is a 'Skateboard Bandit,' but whether that's attached to this case or whether documents will show that, it's too early to tell," said Pokorny.Johnson graduated from Ramona High School in 2003. His attorney said Johnson had been working in construction and plumbing and was laid off a month ago.Pokorny said Johnson will plead not guilty and get what he called a "vigorous defense." Pokorny said he has gotten an outpouring of letters that support Johnson."I've heard no negatives about him at all. [He's] just a nice guy," said Pokorny. But prosecutors said Johnson held up the Poway bank by force, violence and intimidation and took $4,151 in cash.Johnson's mother and father were in court Tuesday, along with his brother and a family friend. They had no comment.Johnson is being held without bail and will be back in court on Friday. The U.S. Attorney wants Johnson to remain in jail, calling him a danger to the community.Pokorny said he will argue on Friday that Johnson is not a danger or a flight risk and should be released with certain conditions.Do you have more information about this story?
