PACIFIC BEACH, Calif. -- Early Monday morning, it seemed like only the dolphins were willing to brave the cooler waters in Pacific Beach. Many people were bundled up for this Labor Day holiday. Some restaurants were using heat lamps to keep customers warm."Maybe if it was really hot, I'd do a little bit of swimming, [but] not today," said Nick Stuart, who is visiting from England. At PB Resort Wear, sundresses and hats were not necessarily flying off the shelves."I asked one of the veterans that work here. They said out of the fifteen years they've worked here, this year has been the worst year," said John No who was speaking about the cold weather. But a little farther down the boardwalk at Pacific Beach Surf Shop, the cooler weather actually is not that bad for business. Surfboard rentals are steady. Despite the weather, employees say tourists are still visiting.Jeff Strunk, who manages the surf shop, said tourists have a limited time in San Diego, and they want to test the waters despite how cold it is.Lifeguards said about 200,000 people visited local beaches on Sunday, which is about 100,000 people fewer than last year. Even with the dip in visitors, the Automobile Club of Southern California still ranked San Diego No. 2 on its list of top places to visit.Do you have more information about this story?
