Bird Hits Line, Causes Chula Vista Power Outage

CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- About 4,600 San Diego Gas & Electric customers in the Chula Vista area lost power Thursday when a bird flew into an electrical line, the utility reported.The outage occurred about 7:50 a.m. Crews were able to restore service for most customers by 10 a.m., but additional repairs meant a longer outage for 787 customers, said SDG&E spokeswoman Allison Zaragoza.The utility expected to have all customers back online by 5 p.m., she added.Elsewhere in San Diego County, nearly 1,000 SDG&E customers in the north Poway/Rancho Bernardo/San Pasqual area lost power at 5:19 a.m. Service was restored by 3 p.m.
