Search Continues For Man Who Ran From Police
Michael Penwell, 25, Ran From Car Filled With Drugs, Stolen Property

LA MESA, Calif. -- A man who ran away from La Mesa police, abandoning a car filled with stolen property and drugs, remained at large Thursday.A La Mesa police officer stopped a Ford Explorer driven by Michael Penwell, 25, in the 5600 block of Lake Murray Boulevard on Sunday. As soon as the vehicle stopped, Penwell fled into a nearby neighborhood, according to La Mesa police Lt. David Bond.A passenger in the vehicle, Christopher Simmons of Spring Valley, was arrested at the scene, Bond said.The vehicle contained narcotics, drug paraphernalia, stolen property from three San Diego vehicles and property from three La Mesa homes burglarized hours before the traffic stop, Bond said.The vehicle's registered owner, Megan Flinn of Victorville, was arrested and jailed on suspicion of possessing the stolen property on Sunday.Penwell is described as white, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a thin build, blonde hair and multiple tattoos.
