VISTA, Calif. -- Jury selection may begin Thursday in the trial of a man charged with gross vehicular manslaughter for a freeway crash that killed his passenger.Charles Eugene Bud Lemay of Oceanside is charged in the June 2009 death of 27-year-old Vista resident Shannon Maureen Mahoney.Lemay allegedly let his pickup truck drift off the side of state Route 78 near El Camino Real on June 6, 2009, causing the vehicle to roll several times.Lemay reportedly had to be subdued with a Taser by California Highway Patrol officers, and his passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.A breathalyzer test showed a small amount of alcohol in Lemay's system at the time of the crash, according to Deputy District Attorney Lisa Stark.The 28-year-old defendant also is facing drug sale charges. He was out on bail in connection with the fatal crash when he was re-arrested in May for the alleged sale and transportation of marijuana, Stark said.He faces up to 11 years in prison if convicted on all counts, she said.
