Boy, 15, Hospitalized After SUV Crashes at Plaza Boulevard, Palm Avenue

SAN DIEGO -- An SUV plowed into a bus stop in National City, sending a 15-year-old boy to the hospital with serious injuries Thursday morning, police said.According to authorities, the vehicle went up on a sidewalk and destroyed the bus stop at Plaza Boulevard and Palm Avenue shortly before 7 a.m.The injured boy was inside the bus stop at the time of the crash, and he was pushed by the impact.Authorities said the boy was not pinned under the SUV but was taken to UCSD Medical Center with multiple fractures.National City Police said the driver, identified as 35-year-old Carlos Manuel Aguilar Martinez, was taken to county jail as authorities worked to determine whether drugs, alcohol or a medical condition contributed to the crash.10News learned the driver was booked on a charge of DUI resulting in bodily injury. He currently has an immigration hold, 10News reported.Bail was set at $50,000.
