Counterfeit Goods Seized From Local Store

Authorities Conduct Raid Of Tierrasanta Store Suspected Of Selling Counterfeit Items

A Tierrasanta shop suspected of selling counterfeit designer items was raided by San Diego police Thursday.

Investigators carried out and boxed thousands of items from the Shoe Repair store in the Albertsons strip mall on Tierrasanta Boulevard. Police estimated the street value of the seized items at $1 million.

Police first received a tip that the store was selling the merchandise, and undercover officers were able to purchase several items before Thursday's raid.

Investigative consultants hired by companies to identify and collect knock-off items worked with police and sorted through the items. Counterfeit items of brands such as Gucci, Juicy Couture, Chanel, Nike and Louis Vuitton were seized.

"It just seemed like an awful lot of officers and an awful lot of stuff came out of there. I wouldn't imagine they could fit that amount of stuff in such a small space," said Deseri Savage, who works at nearby Great Clips.

The International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition said counterfeiting is an illegal $600 billion industry. It costs Americans more than 750,000 jobs every year.

Investigators estimated there were thousands of items inside the store, including hats, handbags, wallets, jewelry, shirts and shoes.

Selling counterfeit merchandise is a felony, and witnesses told 10News the owners of the store were taken away by police.

"And they had the owners in chairs and told them they weren't allowed to walk around or move because they were being detained," said Savage.
