SAN DIEGO -- The mother of a Crawford High School student stabbed in the neck by a classmate said the incident happened over a pair of pants.A white bandage covers the wound on the neck of 16-year-old student Saundralina, who remains hospitalized following Tuesday's stabbing on campus."It's scary because that's my daughter. But you know what? She is going to pull through and she's strong; she’s going to be OK," said Saundralina's mother. She said her daughter was in surgery for three hours and has a tube in her right lung to help her breathe."When they first brought her to the hospital, they had to rush her up to trauma. They had to do surgery. The girl that stabbed her … almost only one inch, maybe, away would have killed her," Saundralina's mother said. The stabbing victim's mother said the teen got into an argument with two other girls over pants when the alleged attacker -- a 14-year-old -- provoked her."This girl has nothing to do with this argument that happened on Monday. This was planned. She came with a knife to school. I don't know how the school let that go by," the victim's mother said.On Tuesday, the mother of the suspected attacker told 10News that Saundralina started hitting her daughter."I don't know how she got a knife, but she stuck the girl because she was on top of her," said the suspected attacker's mother, Daphne Van.The San Diego Unified School District told 10News they could not comment on specific incidents.10News was at Crawford High Wednesday morning when the principal called Saundralina's mother. The victim's mother said it was the first time she had heard from the school and is outraged she wasn't notified earlier. She said she found out about her daughter's injuries from a friend."They’ve got no morals. What kind of people are you? What kind of security you got going there that ... what happens if this girl would have came with a gun?" said Saundralina's mother. She told 10News her daughter and the alleged attacker did not know each other, but Saundralina is going to live with the scar for the rest of her life."She could have died. It was life threatening," said Saundralina's mother. The victim's mother said she doesn't know how long it will be until her daughter is out of hospital and told 10News they are planning on pressing charges.
