15 Vehicles Impounded, 25 Vehicle Citations Issued, 11 Arrested For Public Intoxication

CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- Five people arrested at a Chula Vista checkpoint are facing drunken driving charges Thursday.About 2,350 vehicles passed through the checkpoint in the 700 block of Telegraph Canyon Road between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 a.m. Thursday, said Chula Vista police. The operation was time to coincide with Cinco de Mayo celebrations.Fifteen vehicles were impounded, and 25 citations were issued for various vehicle code violations, police said.In addition to five DUI arrests, three people were arrested on suspicion of other crimes, police said, without elaboration.In another operation time to coincide with Cinco de Mayo, sheriff's deputies dressed in plain clothes hit the pavement in Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar Wednesday night and arrested 11 people for public intoxication. Another was cited for possession of marijuana, according to the sheriff's department.
