Fire At W Hotel Prompts Evacuations

SAN DIEGO -- Fire officials are investigating a blaze that forced 250 guests and employees out of the W Hotel early Monday morning.The fire was reported about 3:30 a.m., and hotel officials said the fire started in a cabana at the outdoor bar on the hotel's third floor.San Diego firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze after nearly 15 minutes.Authorities said no one was injured in the fire and no structural damage was reported.Fire officials said the blaze caused about $100,000 in smoke-related damage to the hotel.Hotel officials said the building, located on 421 West B Street, is open and operating as normal.
