A former federal corrections officer accused of hit and run, and driving under the influence was taken into custody after a two-hour standoff with law enforcement at his Lakeside home, it was reported Sunday.

Kevin Coyne, 45, was arrested Sunday night after relatives helped law enforcement talk him out of his two-story home on Melrose Place, near Sunview Drive, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

About 6:30 p.m. Sunday, a witness reported seeing Coyne mow down two street signs, California Highway Patrol Officer Brian Pennings told the newspaper.

He then went to his home and called several family members before surrendering to CHP officers and sheriff's deputies at 8:50 p.m., the Union-Tribune reported.

Coyne was arrested on suspicion of hit and run, and driving under the influence, Pennings said.
