SAN DIEGO -- Volunteers will look for a missing San Marcos teen in the Anza-Borrego Desert this weekend.Mickey Guidry, 16, disappeared last Thanksgiving weekend after family members said he took the family Jeep into the desert. The jeep was found the next day wrecked and was not in a condition to be driven. Mickey has not been seen since.
The search group was organized through a Facebook page, and using off-road vehicles and motorcycles, they'll search areas where they think Mickey could have walked."You would hope that he stayed with the jeep. You would hope that he hitched a ride out with somebody. But we haven't heard anything," said family friend Chris Crawford. The search through the desert will be daunting, and Crawford said, "It's immense and it's overwhelming. It's truly a needle in a haystack."Sheriff's search and rescue crews previously found a blanket that came from the Jeep. It was found a mile away from the wreck.A Sheriff's spokesman told 10News they consider Mickey a missing person or runaway. They said they've conducted several massive searches before but will not be participating in this weekend's search. The spokesman said they have advised the volunteers where to search.
