La Mesa Woman's Body Found Off Mexican Coast
Maria 'Laura' Chavez Sandoval, 55, Was Reported Missing Sunday

LA MESA, Calif. -- Mexican authorities Friday are investigating the death of a La Mesa woman whose body was found in the water off the coast of Rosarito Beach.Maria "Laura" Chavez Sandoval, 55, was reporting missing Sunday by her husband, said San Diego County sheriff's Detective Pete Carrillo.The man said he found a "goodbye letter" from his wife, who had also gone missing last October and was subsequently found in Mexico City, Carrillo said.
Sheriff's detectives contacted Mexican authorities, who said the body of an unidentified woman was found this week in the water off the coast of Rosarito Beach, Carrillo said.Members of Sandoval's immediate family and sheriff's detectives positively identified the woman as Sandoval late Wednesday afternoon, he said. No cause of death was immediately released.
