Marine Killed In Mira Mesa Rollover Crash

SAN DIEGO -- A motorist is hospitalized Friday in critical condition following a rollover crash in Mira Mesa in which a 21-year-old Marine in the passenger seat was killed, police said.The two were in a westbound yellow Mazda3 sedan that crashed through a metal guard rail and rolled over onto its top in a ravine near Camino Ruiz and Carroll Canyon Road shortly before 10:40 p.m. Thursday, said San Diego police Officer David Stafford and the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.Both the driver and his passenger were rushed to a hospital, Stafford said, adding that the passenger died from injuries.The passenger was a Marine stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, the county coroner's office reported on its Web site. His name was withheld pending family notification.
