North Park Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Arson

POSTED: 2:02 pm PDT March 17, 2010

A North Park man was behind bars Wednesday for allegedly torching the apartment building where he lives, displacing more than a dozen of his neighbors.

Kevin Michael Johnson, 23, was arrested about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, shortly after the blaze erupted in the small two-story residential building in the 4400 block of Hamilton Street, according to the San Diego Metro Arson Strike Team.

The fire, which caused an estimated $150,000 worth of damage, left eight adults and six children in need of interim shelter. No injuries were reported.

Authorities disclosed no suspected motive for the alleged act of arson.

Johnson was being held in county jail on $75,000 bail pending an arraignment hearing scheduled for Monday afternoon.
