Sailor Killed In La Jolla Crash

POSTED: 11:54 am PDT March 14, 2010

A sailor died Sunday after crashing his new sports car into a parked vehicle in La Jolla, authorities said.

The young man's 2010 Chevrolet Camaro crashed at 12:45 a.m. at Torrey Pines Road and Princess Street, causing serious injuries, San Diego police Officer David Stafford said.

The 24-year-old man, who was thrown from the Camaro, was rushed to Scripps Memorial Hospital, where he died during surgery three hours later, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

The victim was identified only as an ensign aboard the destroyer USS Milius at Naval Station San Diego. His name was not released.
