UPDATED: 4:55 pm PST March 12, 2010

An 11-year-old girl reported being grabbed by a tattooed man Friday in an apparent attempted kidnapping on a City Heights street.

The child was walking to Clark Middle School when the stranger called out to her and took hold of her arm in the 3500 block of Fairmount Avenue about 7:40 a.m., according to Jack Brandais, a spokesman for San Diego Unified School District.

The girl was able to break free and run away, Brandais said. She was not injured.

The youngster described her would-be abductor as a 5-foot-8 to 6-foot-tall black man in his mid- to late 20s or early 30s, weighing 200 to 250 pounds, with a shaved head and tattoos on his right arm.

He was wearing blue baggy shorts and a green shirt, the girl told authorities.
