LA MESA, Calif. -- A young man and two teenage boys were jailed Wednesday on suspicion of assault and attempted murder in connection with an East County brawl that sent three men to hospitals, one in critical condition.Officers arrested El Cajon resident Anthony Long, 19, and the two juveniles this morning while serving search warrants at their homes, La Mesa police Lt. David Bond said.Long and the boys, whose names were withheld because they are minors, got into an argument with the three men over a girl early Saturday morning and agreed to meet for a fight at Northmont Park in La Mesa, according to Bond.
The suspects arrived with a baseball bat and a golf club shortly about 1:30 a.m. and used the sports implements to assault their rivals, the lieutenant alleged."During the attack, one man was knocked to the ground and repeatedly struck in the head and face with (the) baseball bat," Bond said. "He sustained multiple head wounds and is still listed in critical condition at Sharp Memorial Hospital."Long was booked into county jail, and the two underage suspects were being held in juvenile hall.
