294 Arrested Over Weekend Illegally Entering US

16 Fugitives Were Among The Nearly 300 Attempting To Enter The US Illegally

POSTED: 7:12 am PST March 9, 2010

Sixteen fugitives were reported to be behind bars Tuesday after being arrested, along with nearly 300 other illegal immigrants, while attempting to enter the United States from Mexico in San Diego and Imperial counties.

Over the past weekend, 294 illegal immigrants were found at border checkpoints in San Ysidro and Calexico hidden in vehicles or caught using fraudulent entry documents or documents legally issued to someone else, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Among the 294 were 16 fugitives wanted on charges of battery, burglary, assault and probation violation, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security told the newspaper.
