VISTA, Calif. -- No charges were filed Tuesday against a woman accused of holding a knife to a 71- year-old woman's throat, punching her in the face and attempting to strangle her with a belt during a home invasion burglary in Vista.

Prosecutor Judy Taschner said the case against Carey Lynn Barton was still under investigation.

Barton, 47, was arrested Wednesday in Escondido at a California parole office in connection with a home invasion burglary that occurred a day earlier, said San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Art Wager.

Barton was booked on suspicion of burglary, assault, battery and dissuading a witness.

Around noon last Tuesday, a woman entered the Vista home of a 71-year-old woman through an unlocked door and held a knife to the victim's throat before punching her in the face and attempting to strangle her with a belt, Wager said.

The younger woman then demanded property before fleeing in the victim's vehicle, Wager said.
