Sergeant Who Accepted Stolen Goods Pleads Guilty

Walter McWilson Was A 10-Year Department Veteran

POSTED: 7:26 am PST February 12, 2010

Oceanside police sergeant plead guilty Thursday to receiving stolen property and knowingly accepting items purchased with embezzled funds, prosecutors said.

Walter McWilson, a 10-year department veteran, pleaded guilty to three counts in Vista Superior Court, San Diego County district attorney's office spokesman Paul Levikow said. McWilson is scheduled to be sentenced on June 15.

McWilson knowingly received $54,000 worth of items to update his home, including mahogany wood flooring, Travertine tile and flat-screen TVs, in 2006 and 2007, according to investigators.

The items were purchased with embezzled funds by a woman with whom McWilson was romantically involved, prosecutors said.

McWilson has been on administrative leave since August.
