City Council Honors Reality Show Winners

Meghan Rickey, Cheyne Whitney Won 'The Amazing Race'

POSTED: 11:00 am PST February 2, 2010

The City Council declared it "Meghan and Cheyne: Amazing Race Winners Day" in San Diego Tuesday, honoring the victors in the most recent season of the CBS television show.

Meghan Rickey, 24, and Cheyne Whitney, 23, were raised in San Carlos and attended Patrick Henry High School before making it onto the show on their third try.

Councilman Todd Gloria, who presented the proclamation along with Councilwoman Marti Emerald, said the two "represented our city remarkably well."

Emerald called them role models for young people for their healthy lifestyles and achievements.

"This is a huge honor for Cheyne and I," Rickey said.

Whitney said: "We saw beauty, we saw poverty, we saw sadness. We saw everything, but we always kept San Diego in our hearts."

The two have known each other since elementary school and have been dating for several years. They collected their $1 million prize for their Amazing Race victory in December.

In a bit of levity, Rickey said, "Not many titles have come out of San Diego lately."

"Next year," Cheyne said.
