Family Mourns Loss Of Man Killed In Spring Valley Crash

UPDATED: 11:20 am PST January 24, 2010

Family and friends are mourning the death of 50 year old David Reid, killed Friday in a violent car crash in Spring Valley.

18 year old Andrew Bellatti crashed into 50 year old Reid near Steele Canyon High School, killing him. Bellatti, his pasenger and Reid's teenage son Garrett were all sent to the hospital with major injuries.

The highway patrol says Bellatti's red mustang struck Reid's dodge caravan head-on. Investigators say the speedometer was frozen on 80 miles an hour in a 55 mile zone.

Russ Hadley lives two doors down from the Reids. His nephew, Joshua was close to Reid's son Garrett. Both expressed shock and sadness over what happened, especially along a highway considered so dangerous by so many. Russ told 10news, "It's always been really dangerous. There's always been "pray for me I drive highway 94" stickers because it's so narrow.

Bellatti graduated from Steel Canyon High last year and was recently drafted for the tampa bay rays.

An open service will be held for David Reid next Sunday at Steele Canyon High School.
