SAN DIEGO -- San Diego Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson was pulled over by a San Diego police officer several hours before the team's AFC playoff game against the New York Jets on Sunday, 10News reported.

San Diego Police Department spokesman Gary Hassen confirmed the officer pulled over Jackson's vehicle early Sunday morning because he was playing loud music. It is believed Jackson was heading to the team's Murphy Canyon-area facility. The officer reported Jackson's vehicle tags were expired and learned Jackson was driving on a suspended license, which is a misdemeanor.

According to Hassen, Jackson was taken out of his vehicle and handcuffed for a short period of time. With the choice to take Jackson to jail or cite him, the officer cited the wide receiver and impounded his vehicle, Hassen said.

"It wouldn't have been good if he hadn't played. He's a big part of what we do," head coach Norv Turner told the media on Monday.

Sources told 10News Jackson was given a ride to Qualcomm Stadium by quarterback Philip Rivers.

Jackson had been convicted once and charged a second time with driving under the influence. The second charge from 2009 is still pending.

On Monday, Jackson avoided the media members waiting for him in the team's locker room. Just last week, Jackson got a continuance on his second DUI case. In that case, his blood-alcohol level tested twice the legal limit. If convicted, he could earn a suspension from the NFL.

10News contacted Jackson's attorney for comment, but he said he could not comment and would neither confirm nor deny anything in 10News' report.
