An assistant freshman girls' soccer coach at Del Norte High School was jailed Thursday on suspicion of sending inappropriate text messages to a student, the San Diego Police Department reported.

Robin Michael Alarcon, 35, was taken into custody Wednesday, according to Sharon Raffer, director of communications for Poway Unified School District.

Alarcon, who was a "walk-on" assistant coach at the 4S Ranch-area school, has been "permanently released from all duties" with the district, Raffer said.

The messages were sent to the student the evening of January 5, 2010.

The student informed school officials about the messages the next day and school officials immediately contacted the San Diego Police Department. Detectives from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force also responded to the school. Alarcon was located and arrested at the high school.

Alarcon was also the girls' lacrosse coach at Mt. Carmel High School in the Rancho Penasquitos community and is a girls' club soccer coach for a team in Rancho Penasquitos. Administrators from Del Norte High School, Mt. Carmel High School and the Poway Unified School District are cooperating with this investigation.

Alarcon was booked into the San Diego Central Jail and has been charged with sending harmful matter to a minor and communicating with a minor with the intent to commit a sexual act. Alarcon's bail is set at $75,000 and he is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, January 8, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. in Department 12 of the San Diego Superior Court downtown.

Anyone with information concerning this investigation is asked to contact the San Diego Police Department at 619-531-2000.

Alarcon's arrest was the second in just over a month involving a one-time physical education instructor with PUSD.

On Dec. 4, former Westview High volunteer wrestling coach Ryan Paul Carnell was jailed on suspicion of molesting an underage female student.

Carnell, 28, had pleaded no contest to lewd behavior three months earlier for sending a picture of his genitals to a 16-year-old female student.
