ALPINE, Calif. -- A 27-year-old man was in custody Thursday for allegedly shooting his brother with snake shot during an argument in Alpine, causing non-life-threatening wounds, authorities said.

Cody Summers used a .22 caliber pistol loaded with snake shot to shoot Zack Summers, 31, at a home in the 15800 block of Sequan Truck Trail late Wednesday afternoon, according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Mike Clough.

The victim called authorities from a cell phone while driving himself to a hospital about 4:30 p.m., Clough said, adding that his wounds were not life-threatening.

Deputies went to the home where the shooting allegedly occurred and a standoff of nearly two hours ensued, ending with Summers' surrender, Clough said.

He was arrested and booked into county jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Snake shot, also known as rat shot, is generally used for killing small animals at close range.
