SAN DIEGO -- Family members blame the death of a woman during a Horton Plaza seminar on the event's sponsor, self-help guru James Arthur Ray.Members of Minnesotan Colleen Conaway's family said they would like the San Diego Police Department to re-open its investigation of Conaway's death in late July.During the "Creating Absolute Wealth" seminar, the family said Conaway and others were placed downtown and told to pretend to be homeless for a self-sufficiency exercise. Conaway then jumped from the third floor of Horton Plaza to her death, according to authorities.Loved ones said she did not suffer from depression and just lost 90 pounds in two years. Family members said Conaway was planning to write a recipe book and start a business. The family wants to know what role Ray's event may have played in her death. Conaway's sister, Lynn Graham said, "It could have been brainwashing. He's been known for heavy-handed tactics. She went from someone excited about life to someone who was completely alone in a span of two days. You can't put people in such an emotional state and then just dump them."Less than three months later, 3 people died in a sweat lodge event in Arizona held by Ray.One detail the family is concerned about is that the event bus picked up everybody, but left without Conaway. It would be seven hours before Ray's group reported her missing.Ray's group issued the following statement: "There is no evidence whatsoever that Mr. Ray or James Ray International contributed to or could have prevented Ms. Conaway's tragic suicide."San Diego police said the case remains closed unless there is new evidence.
