Woman Apologizes For Bizarre Court Behavior

UPDATED: 6:14 pm PST December 4, 2009

An Encinitas woman accused of stealing expensive fixtures from a multi-million dollar foreclosed home apologized for not identifying herself at her own hearing, 10News reported.

On Dec. 1, Suzy Brown defied a Vista courthouse judge and was thrown in jail. On Friday, Brown cooperated when she showed up for a bail hearing.

"My original behavior was really misguided," said Brown.

"It's easy for her to take bad legal advice from a non-lawyer," said Judge Runston G. Maino.

Brown explained bad legal advice was behind her bizarre court appearance on Tuesday where she repeatedly refused to identify herself.

After going several minutes without identifying herself, the judge told bailiffs to arrest Brown, who is accused of pillaging and stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of luxurious fixtures from her Encinitas mansion. Brown said she planned to use the home as an upscale rehabilitation center.

Sources told 10News Brown was placed on suicide watch after making unusual comments during the booking process.

During Friday's bail hearing, Brown asked to be released on her own recognizance and promised to appear in court later this month.

"My word is worth more than dollar amounts," said Brown.

"Let's see if your word is what you think that I think it is," said Maino.

Brown is expected to be released Friday evening and is due back in court in two weeks to face grand theft and felony vandalism charges.
