A man who was killed when a pickup truck driven by a South Bay elected official struck him as he tried to walk across a Dulzura-area road was identified Friday.

Thomas Klopfstein, 58, died at the scene of the accident, which occurred shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday on Campo Road, near Community Building Road, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.

The driver, Chula Vista City Councilman Rudy Ramirez, told investigators he didn't see the pedestrian cross into the path of his eastbound 2001 Toyota Tundra because the sun was in his eyes, the California Highway Patrol reported. Ramirez, 49, was not cited for the accident.

Klopfstein lived alone in a mobile home in Dulzura.
