Parolee Search Prompts School Lockdowns

SAN DIEGO -- Two primary schools in City Heights were locked down for about 90 minutes Friday as authorities searched for a parolee-at-large believed to have fled into the area.State parole personnel contacted the San Diego Police Department just before noon to request assistance in finding the man, who was thought to possibly be in a neighborhood near Orange Avenue and 37th Street, SDPD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said.Administrators at two elementary schools in the immediate area -- Edison and Central -- were notified about the situation, and they directed teachers to secure students indoors until the situation was resolved.Police and parole personnel looked for the fugitive without success for about 90 minutes before calling off the search, Munoz said.The parolee's name was not released.
