SAN DIEGO -- A 19-year-old man believed to be responsible for 150 incidents of graffiti throughout Escondido is in custody, a police official said Saturday.Escondido resident Isaiah Gastelum was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of six incidents of felony vandalism, and 146 cases of misdemeanor vandalism, said Escondido police Lt. Bob Benton.Damage attributed to the Escondido teen is estimated damage at $50,000, said Benton. He said the city most likely will seek restitution for the cost of the graffiti clean up.
Investigators used a computer system called Graffiti Tracker before Gastelum's arrest, according to Benton. The software analyzes and archives the graffiti, making it easier for investigators to track the most active vandals, he said.Gastelum was arrested on Tuesday, and is scheduled to make his first court appearance at 1:30 p.m. Monday at North Division Court in Vista, according to jail records.
