SAN DIEGO -- A masked gunman described as 60 to 70 years old attempted to rob a Torrey Hills bank Friday but left when he saw a security guard, police said. The man was wearing a surgical mask and blue sunglasses when he entered the Bank of America at 11190 East Ocean Air Drive about to 11 a.m., said San Diego police Officer Brad Ruff. The suspect walked up to a teller, who saw a handgun tucked in his front waistband, Ruff said.
The man looked around the bank and casually stated to the employee that he saw the bank's security guard, and then walked out of the bank and got into an older model, four-door, silver Nissan Altima or Sentra that was parked in front of the bank, he said. The vehicle, which had no license plates, was last seen traveling southbound on East Ocean Air Drive. There was no loss at the bank and no one was injured during the attempted robbery, according to Ruff.
