Woman Pleads Not Guilty In Crash That Killed Poway Mom
Becky Marie Anderson Allegedly Under Influence Of Depressants

SAN DIEGO -- A motorist who allegedly was under the influence of depressants when she swerved into a bicycle lane and onto a curb on a Poway street, killing an oncoming pedestrian, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a charge of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.Becky Marie Anderson, 44, was ordered held on $200,000 bail.Anderson was alone in her car when she allegedly swerved into a bicycle lane on Community Road south of Aubrey Street about 7 a.m. Monday, killing Kristen Ann Bedard, a 36-year-old single mother of two, said Deputy District Attorney Ted Minahan.The prosecutor told Judge David Szumowski that Anderson told sheriff's deputies sent to the scene that she was the driver of the car that hit the victim, who was walking north on Community.Anderson was allegedly under the influence of a controlled substance, namely depressants, when the accident occurred, Minahan said.The defendant faces a maximum of 10 years in state prison if convicted, according to the prosecutor.Szumowski set a status conference for Dec. 2 and a readiness conference for Dec. 8. A preliminary hearing was set for Dec. 10.
