Shots Fired At Deputy Leads To Poway Pursuit

POSTED: 5:17 am PST November 24, 2009
UPDATED: 5:10 pm PST November 24, 2009

A motorist is in custody Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly firing a gun at a sheriff's deputy in Poway, triggering a 10-minute-long vehicle pursuit, authorities said.

The non-injury shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. Monday near Pomerado Road and Robison Boulevard during a traffic stop prompted by a minor equipment violation, according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Greg Rylaarsdam.

The motorist, Jacob Woolsey, 32, allegedly fired several shots from inside his car. Woolsey was arrested about 10 minutes later after being chased through Poway, San Diego and 4S Ranch at speeds up to 90 miles per hour, Rylaarsdam said.

The chase ended in the 14200 block of Palisades Drive, near Silverset Street, in Poway, according to the sergeant.

Woolsey was booked into county jail on suspicion of attempted murder and other felony charges.
