Julian Man Killed In East County Crash Identified

POSTED: 11:10 am PST November 21, 2009

The Medical Examiner's Office released the name of a Julian man who died in a head-on collision between two pickup trucks on a mountain road in eastern San Diego County Friday morning.

Rees Boynton Skinner, 53, died at the scene, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.

Numerous passersby attempted to help Skinner, who was pinned in his vehicle, officials said. A nurse, who was a bystander, told investigators that Skinner died before paramedics arrived.

The crash occurred about 11:15 a.m. Friday when 20-year-old Justin Jones of Ranchita lost control of the 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 he was driving on Julian Road east of Ramona, according to the California Highway Patrol. The westbound truck veered directly into the path of an oncoming 2002 Ford F-150 near the Old Julian Highway intersection, CHP public affairs Officer Brian Pennings said.

Medics took Jones, who is not licensed to drive, to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido for treatment of moderately serious injuries, the spokesman said. Jones was seat-belted at the time of the accident, according to Pennings.

Preliminary evidence indicated that Skinner was not wearing a seat belt.
