Woman Pleads Not Guilty In Boyfriend's Death

Gina Manley, 49, And Ralph Grice, 56, Engage In Alcohol-Fuelded Fight Over Unemployment

A woman accused of shooting her live-in boyfriend in Flinn Springs during an alcohol-fueled disagreement over the unemployed victim's plan to take a new job pleaded not guilty Friday to a murder charge.

Gina Rene Manley, 49, also faces an allegation that she fired a weapon and caused great bodily injury or death to 56-year-old Ralph Grice last Monday night in their trailer on Olde Highway 80.

If found guilty of the charge and allegation, Manley could be imprisoned for 50 years to life, Deputy District Attorney Chantal deMauregne said.

"It was a domestic violence situation," deMauregne said. "The defendant and victim were in a dating relationship and had been for several years."

The couple reportedly argued about Grice taking a job with his stepson at a Temecula plumbing business, and his plans to spend several nights in Riverside County each week to avoid a lengthy commute.

Sheriff's Lt. Dennis Brugos said deputies were en route to the mobile home park on reports of someone carrying a gun when Grice was shot.

DeMauregne said Grice died of a head wound. Alcohol was involved, and while both defendant and victim were tested for their blood-alcohol level, results have not been received, she said.

Manley was on probation for drunken driving at the time of the shooting, according to Judge Louis Hanoian, who ordered the defendant held without bail.
