Bail Set At $3M For Man Accused In Sex Assaults

POSTED: 5:58 pm PST November 12, 2009
UPDATED: 6:44 pm PST November 12, 2009

Police said a Rancho San Diego man accused of two sexual assaults in the South Bay may be responsible for other attacks, 10News reported.

On Thursday, a judge set bail for George Moreland at $3 million after a prosecutor called him a serious danger to society.

Moreland, 46, is accused of hiring two women he met off the street to clean his house, driving them to his Rancho San Diego home and then sexually assaulting them in the same house he shared with his wife and two young children.

"That's just horrific. I really feel for the family, his wife and children," said neighbor Rita Hendrickson.

District Attorney Danna Cannovino said, "The defendant is a flight risk. It's also believed he's a significant risk to the public based on how he selects his victims and sexually assaults them."

In 1997, Moreland, a Radio Shack salesman, was convicted of kidnapping an 18-year-old customer, tying her up in the back room with cables and trying to rape her, 10News learned.

Police said Moreland specifically targeted Hispanic women, and added they were aware of one more possible victim. Police also said they believe there might be more victims and encourage the women to come forward.

Moreland is due back in court Nov. 24.
