A Santee woman previously exposed by the 10News I-Team for duping people into buying bogus theme park tickets did not show up for her sentencing."She posted bail and bonded out. She should have been here," said Deputy District Attorney John Pro.Jacquelyn Carman was scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday after being convicted of stealing theme park gift cards from grocery stores and selling them online. Buyers would show up to theme parks like Disneyland or Legoland but would later find out the gift cards were worthless since they were never validated.
"In the end the victims in this case are the one's who suffer the most. Many of these people were looking forward to spending a fun day at Disneyland," said Pro.Prosecutors told the I-Team Carman also sold fake tickets to other theme parks like SeaWorld and Universal Studios. She would post the tickets for sale on Web sites like Craigslist, arrange to meet in a public place and always asked for cash to cover her tracks."It's the mindset of the victims, the getting ready to go to Disneyland and have fun with their families, and taking the time to drive up there and plan a whole day for it. That really is what the loss is," said Pro.The I-Team learned Carman has been in trouble before. She had only been out of jail for two months when she was arrested for the theme park ticket scam. The prosecutor was asking for a year of prison time, but that will have to wait as deputies search for her.Experts advise consumers to question ticket sellers if the ticket cost is a lot less than the retail price. If the seller wants to meet in a public place and only wants cash, buyers should question it, experts recommended.
