Man Shot At For Saying 'Hi' To Woman

EL CAJON, Calif. -- A man opened fire on a man who spoke to his girlfriend at a Bostonia convenience store, but none of the shots found their target, police said Monday.El Cajon police received reports of gunshots at the 7-Eleven parking lot on 151 Ballantyne St. around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, said El Cajon police Lt. Mark Coit.The victim, whose name and age were not released, told officers that he said "hi" to a girl as he passed her on the street, Coit said.The girl's boyfriend came up to the victim and confronted him about talking to his girlfriend, he said. The suspect pulled a knife from his waistband and the victim threw his bicycle at him, according to the lieutenant.Several other men joined the assailant, prompting the victim to run toward Main Street, Coit said, adding that the victim heard several shots being fired at him.A tow truck was struck by a stray round as the driver pulled out of the 7-Eleven parking lot, according to Coit.No one was injured during the shooting, he said. The suspects fled the area on foot and police looked for them, but the search was unavailing, Coit said.Investigators are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the El Cajon Police Department at (619) 579-3311.
