A British auction house says it's selling a strand of Elvis Presley's hair preserved for decades by a fan.

The auction house said Saturday the strand is owned by Thomas B. Morgan Jr., an Elvis fan and former administrator at Shelby County sheriff's office.

Morgan Jr. told auctioneers he received the hair follicle from Homer Gill Gilleland, the singer's personal barber for more than 20 years.

Auction house Henry Aldridge & Son said the strand of hair, and accompanying letters and certificates, will be sold Nov. 14. The hair has a guide price of 150 pounds to 250 pounds ($250 to $415).

Last month in Chicago, a clump of hair believed to have been trimmed from Presley's head when he joined the U.S. Army in 1958 sold for $15,000.
