A man armed with a pistol robbed a South Bay credit union Friday morning, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The holdup at North Island Credit Union on Palm Avenue in Imperial Beach was reported about 10:45 a.m., sheriff's Lt. Julie Sutton said.

After stealing an undetermined amount of cash, the thief ran off to the south, Sutton said.

Witnesses described him as a thin man between 25 and 35 years old, wearing a gray sweatshirt, black baseball cap and sunglasses.
