Sexually Violent Predator Hedge Re-Arrested

POSTED: 12:41 pm PST November 6, 2009
UPDATED: 5:54 pm PST November 6, 2009

A sexually violent predator reintegrated into the community in April following years of treatment at a mental hospital was arrested for violating terms and conditions of his release, authorities said Friday.

Matthew Hedge, 46, was taken into custody without incident Thursday about 7:30 p.m. at his trailer near Donovan State Prison in Otay Mesa, according to the San Diego Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force, or SAFE.

Hedge is not accused of committing any new crimes, but no details were released by SAFE officials on how he allegedly violated terms of his release.

The specific basis for his revocation must be filed in court by Monday, and a hearing will be set to determine whether Hedge will be revoked from outpatient supervision and returned to the state hospital for further treatment, according to SAFE.

Hedge was originally ordered into outpatient treatment in 2005, but his outpatient status was revoked within six weeks for violating terms of his release.

After more than two years of in-patient hospital treatment, the court in October 2008 again granted Hedge's petition to be placed in outpatient treatment.

He was ordered placed at the Otay Mesa site on April 13 of this year.

Hedge pleaded guilty in 1989 to molesting four children in the San Diego area and served 12 years in prison. He was committed to the sexually violent predator treatment program in 1997.
