Student Says Aggressive Stranger Followed Her From School

POSTED: 3:10 pm PST November 5, 2009
UPDATED: 1:08 pm PST November 6, 2009

Deputies with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department are stepping up patrols near Ramona-area schools after a 16-year-old student said a man attempted to lure her into his car Wednesday afternoon.

Kyrin Kazemier started her school day Thursday filing a report at the sheriff's department with her mom, something she knows now she should've done sooner.

"Everybody keeps kicking me in the butt for that, saying, 'Why didn't you call 911, why didn't you call the police right away.' I didn't because I wasn't thinking that way. I was thinking I need to get away from him," said Kyrin.

The junior at Ramona High School said she was walking home from cheerleading practice Wednesday when a man in a black car followed her from the school to Keyster Road just across the street from the campus. She said the man kept harassing her and tried to convince her to let him give her a ride.

"I kept saying, 'No, sir, I'm fine, thank you. No, I don't need a ride.' He kept saying, 'Really, let me take you,'" said Kyrin.

Kyrin's mother, Jennifer Hauber told 10News, "I was just really scared, thinking how scary that is for someone to do that. You live in a small community like Ramona … you don't think about things like that happening in a small town."

Kyrin said she tried to trick the man by pretending she lived at a house nearby, but no one was home. She said the man watched and waited, and that's when she said she became really scared.

"In my head, I was thinking, 'Oh my gosh, this is really happening.' I said, 'Sir, could you please leave me alone? I'm ready to call the cops.' He cussed me out and drove off," said Kyrin.

The girl said she was not really able to get a good look at the man other than he was in a black car.

The principal at Ramona High School sent out an automated phone message alerting parents about what happened.
