Crews Put Out Fire Near San Vicente Reservoir

A motorized weed cutter sparked a fire that scorched about five open, brushy acres on a hillside near San Vicente Reservoir Wednesday.

Someone cutting dry vegetation alongside a dirt road just east of State Route 67 in the Foster area accidentally ignited the non-injury blaze shortly after noon, according to Cal Fire.

It took ground crews and personnel aboard air tankers and helicopters about 20 minutes to contain the flames, said Nick Schuler, a battalion chief for the state agency.

The fire never posed any structural threats, Schuler said. Crews remained on the scene in the late afternoon, making sure all hot spots were thoroughly extinguished, he said.
