Suspected Hit-And-Run Driver Flees Scene With Head Wound

POSTED: 8:11 am PST November 4, 2009

A suspected hit-and-run driver with a bleeding head wound ran away from the scene of a two-car collision on Del Dios Highway Wednesday, authorities said.

The highway crash at Date Lane was reported at 6:40 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

A witness reported seeing one of the drivers flee on foot, CHP Officer Ray Scheidnes said, adding that the motorist was bleeding from the head.

One of the vehicles involved overturned but it was not immediately clear whether the vehicle was driven by the suspect or the other motorist.

Paramedics took the driver of the second car who had remained at the scene to Palomar Medical Center, said a dispatcher with the North County Fire Protection District.

The extent of that driver's injury was not immediately released.
